First, make sure this is the holder you need for your particular car's drink space. It was MUCH too large for my 1996 Subaru Legacy, but it did fit my husband's 2006 Chevrolet van. Even if it had fit, you should notice how far the pen is sticking out in the picture...that is because the pen's slot is not very deep, maybe one inch, tops. If there is a "coin" holder, it isn't large enough for quarters to stack, and it also is not really deep enough. The openings at the bottom for chargers are probably a good idea, though I don't use a car charger, so I cannot be sure. There are two slots, one wider than the other and both sufficiently deep that things should not fall out.

This was not a product that I could use with my car, but I do plan to make presents of them to folks with newer vehicles who do use chargers, blue tooth devices, and have a ton of writing utensils (perhaps one of the slots would work for pens rather than the single hole).

Definitely double check the size of the base!!!
